Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG)

Gastric sleeve surgery, or vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG), is a bariatric weight loss surgery. The VSG procedure is a safe, minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure for candidates with a BMI over 30. The VSG surgery only takes around 45 minutes to complete. Patients will gradually lose weight, and can expect to lose 60 to 70% of excess weight. This procedure has a shorter operating time and fewer reported post-op complications.*

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RNY)

RNY gastric bypass surgery is the gold standard in bariatric surgery in the United States. It is a very effective method for achieving weight loss at any BMI, and particularly for the “sweet eater” group. RNY is a procedure intended to make the stomach significantly smaller, so that you will feel full more quickly, reducing the amount of food and calories consumed. Combined with the intestinal bypass, the calories contained in the foods consumed aren’t absorbed as well by your system, further reducing total calories taken in. RNY is also the best solution of those candidates who experience major acid reflux. The combination of these factors leads to significant weight loss.*

Mini Gastric Bypass (MGB)

Mini gastric bypass surgery (MGB) is a laparoscopic gastric bypass weight loss surgery that can be reversed or revised. It is very similar to the traditional RNY surgery, but only has one connection to the small intestine. Compared to RNY, mini gastric bypass is less invasive and requires less time for surgery. MGB is a restrictive procedure that impairs the absorption of food nutrients across the gastrointestinal tract. With MGB, proper nutrition, diet, and exercise, patients can expect to lose a significant amount of their excess weight.*
