These gastric sleeve success stories are from real patients who have undergone bariatric surgery in Mexico.
I just wanted to let the staff here at “Mi Hospital [aLighterMe.com]” know how wonderful the entire staff has been. I especially want to command the nurses Karen and Carmen. They went out of their way to make sure I was happy, and that I had everything I needed. Carmen speaks excellent English, and it was nice to be able to hold conversation with her. Karen and I communicated using my Spanish Translation App on my phone. Please let these ladies know how much they mean to us patients. Thank you for an excellent experience! *
Sleeved by Dr. Elias Ortiz – October 2012
I live in NS Canada. I’m the Mom of 4 children (ages 6-21), happily married, I am the Branch Manager for a loans company, I was 234lbs, 5’6″, wore size 18/20, had Diabetes, High BP and High Chol.*
I did not exercise at all pre or post op. (I don’t have time for that..lol)
I eat WHATEVER I want only in very small quantities. I’ve always been a foodie. I am not an emotional eater, I just like food.
I am 11 months post op and a 1/2 a Greek yogurt still satisfies me however I can now force my self to eat the whole single serving but that would be an entire meal (turkey dinner full). Just to give you an idea of what to expect 11 months out. *
My surgeon was Dr. Elias Ortiz and he was terrific!
Hello! My name is Terri and I had my surgery in May of 2013 with no complications whatsoever and absolutely no regrets. My surgeon was Dr. Ortiz and he was terrific! Yes, he is quite young but don’t let that deter you from going with him. Judging from comments on the forums, I think I experienced minimal pain right after surgery (mostly just gas) and my incisions are now neat, little, fading scars. I can’t compare Dr. Ortiz to any other surgeons but my experience with him was all good and I was very happy that I had chosen him. My sister who went to Mexico with me was also interested in having the surgery and he was gracious and patient enough to answer all of her questions as well as mine (she had more questions that I had, actually…haha). Her surgery is booked for November 11 with Dr. Ortiz.
If you are having any other doubts about getting sleeved, I will tell you what probably 99% of sleevers will tell you: having this surgery was the absolute best thing I ever could have done for myself. Prior to having the surgery, I felt dead and hopeless inside. Today I feel alive, energized, renewed, assertive and my self-confidence is slowly starting to make a comeback. I want to shout it from the roof-tops and I want everyone who has ever struggled with their weight to feel this way…GO FOR IT!!!! *
I was 52. I was overweight. No matter what I tried, I could not lose weight. I had been thru 6 knee surgeries, so running was hard, and walking very uncomfortable.
Then I found A Lighter Me. Ronda was amazing. So very helpful and encouraging. I scheduled my surgery. I decided to have it in Tijuana, Mexico.
I was over 270 pounds. I had allergies, sleep apnia, a that much weight was very hard on my bad knee.
My sleeve surgery was scheduled for August 13, 2012.
We flew into San Diego and we were picked up at the airport, driven to Tijuana, and taken to the Marriot. A very nice hotel.
Monday, we were picked up at the hotel and taken to the clinic. We were treated like royalty.
After I woke up from sleeve surgery, within a half hour, I was walking the halls. Very little pain. Wednesday afternoon, we were taken back to the hotel, and on Friday taken back to San Diego.
I hit my goal before December*. I has now been over 13 months since my surgery. I no longer snore, my allergies are almost non-existent, and my bad knee is not as painful. I have a new wardrobe and can wear clothes I have not worn in 20 years.
I still eat very little. I only eat grilled grilled meat and veggies. I still drink my protein shakes and a LOT of water….
THANK YOU A LIGHTER ME! *
Our Sleeve Gastrectomy Story – First class ALL the way!
Both my husband and I had the sleeve done February 8, 2013. It has changed our life!!! We both are from were born, raised, and still live in New Orleans were food is “our thing.” And like many many people that live here we just ate and ate. I have been over weight all my life. I was 8 years old going to weight watchers in the 80’s. (eating liver and onions on Wednesdays.) I fought (still fighting) this battle my whole life. My husband was also overweight his whole life. We lost over 100lbs right before we got married. Of course within a few years gained that back plus more. I was 33 years old weighing 398lbs my husband was 350lbs. We thought we were happy just overweight. I started looking into the surgery for myself. I had fertility issues and high blood pressure. My husband did not want me to have the surgery at first. Then I made him go to a class with me about the surgery and that TOTALLY changed his mind!! Not only did he want me to have it he wanted it. Our insurance company did not cover the surgery so a friend told me about Mexico. I researched it for over two months before I contacted alighterme.com. Within minutes of me contacting them Ronda called me and sent me tons of information. We spoke on the phone and she answered every question I had. We put the deposit had the surgery in Feb 2013. Our surgery weight was 350 for me and my husband 275. *
In Mexico it was great the doctors nurses and the staff of Alighter Me were WONDERFUL. First class ALL the way!!! We were treated better in Mexico that what we would have been here in the US. After surgery we hit the ground running. We followed the diet plan suggested I joined groups online got recipes etc… and the weight is just falling off! We started exercising together every night.
Our relationship is stronger because we are doing this together. We are happier with ourselves so in return we are happier together! This is the BEST BEST BEST BEST thing I have ever done for myself and I would do it again in a heart beat!!!
My daughter and I had sleeve surgery with Dr. Elias Ortiz
My daughter and I had gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Ortiz on July 23, 2013. We were very pleased with Dr. Ortiz, the hospital facility and staff, the hotel and especially A Lighter Me and their staff.
I had researched the surgery for almost 8 months before making a decision. I interviewed almost every facilitating company I could find and after much thought went with A Lighter Me. I read and reread Dr Ortiz’s CV and was impressed, I also researched the claims of his CV and found them to be true. Dr. Ortiz spent almost an hour with me before surgery making sure I was clear on all the details. My daughter is a smoker and Dr Ortiz was concerned about her cravings when she woke up so he sent some one out to get her a nicotine patch and he himself put it on her while still in the recovery room. We had no leaks and no problems at all after surgery. He came to check on us in the hotel and prior to our leaving again spent an hour explaining the future with a sleeve. Dr Ortiz is caring and compassionate and it showed. His English was perfect. Our progress since surgery has been great, it is life changing and it’s taking me some time to get used to eating slower and taking smaller bites but it will come. I don’t regret my decision to have the surgery at all and I truly feel I had the best possible care.
I know some people find it stressful going to Mexico for care. We’ve had a lot of dental work done in Mexico and know that Mexican doctors are well trained and although they charge a lot less they are every bit as professional. In fact I wanted to go to a facility that did high numbers of VSG’s , a Canadian surgeon would not likely have the experience a bariatric surgeon in TJ has.
I found that the hotel lobby was like the bariatric social club. People from all over the US and Canada are there and were either nervous, sore or relieved and ready to head home. We all talked about our experience and it became very obvious that some of the experiences people had would not have worked for me. Some people had their surgery at a strip mall and were brought back to the hotel the same day only to he put in a van the next day and taken for a recheck. Some only had one night in the hotel and then sent home. I met 2 people that had leaks and had to be taken back to surgery, these folks were NOT patients of Dr Ortiz. One lady booked with the hospital on her own and was having a rough time getting to and from the airport, hospital, etc. She saved about $350 and I’m sure spent more than than in expenses usually covered. A Lighter Me looked after us from the minute the plane landed until we took off, they were available to us 24 hours a day and stressed that we could call anytime. They checked on us often and even took us shopping. Ronda held my hand through a few rough patches before going to Mexico.*
Bariatric Surgery: Gastric Sleeve Surgery
One of the newer forms of bariatric surgery, gastric sleeve surgery is quickly overtaking Lap-Band and Gastric Bypass surgery. Gastric Sleeve Surgery is a permanent weight-loss surgery that aims to restrict the amount of food patients eat by reducing the size of the stomach by roughly 85%. The Sleeve gastrectomy weight loss procedure helps obese patients lose weight and return to healthy life without the dietary restrictions of more invasive surgeries.
Gastric sleeve surgery success stories are quickly populating the internet as more patients opt for gastric sleeve instead of gastric band and gastric bypass surgery. With complication rates similar to gastric banding surgery, and weight-loss similar to gastric bypass, it’s easy to see why gastric sleeve is quickly becoming the premier weight-loss surgery.
If you are struggling with more than a few unwanted pounds you have lots of company. Recently, obese Americans have increased to the point of actually outnumbering overweight Americans. This dangerous trend means that more Americans than ever have gone past the need to lose a few pounds just to look better. They need to lose fifty, a hundred, or even more pounds – to live better and, in many cases, longer.
Having engaged in this battle against weight gain, you know what it is like to diet, over and over again. You can remember losing ten, twenty, or even more pounds – over and over again. Then, before you knew it, you gained back the weight and went on to put on even more pounds than you lost in the first place. You know only too well how those extra pounds have gotten in the way of you becoming the healthful, active, and confident person you long to be.
