When you send us your completed health questionnaire, it will be sent to the appropriate surgeon who will evaluate your case individually. There are some guidelines that determine if you’re a candidate. On average, good candidates are between 18 and 65 years old and have a BMI of over 30. If you’re below a BMI of 30 but have other health issues that could be improved by surgery, you may qualify.
Everyone’s body is different. People are successful by following the guidelines set by their surgeon. Some people lose weight faster than others. You can expect to lose 60 to 70% of your excess weight in the first six months.*
Your surgeon will give you recommendations. The answer comes from all of the different health factors involved.
Most people will lose weight after surgery. If you don’t lose as much as you were hoping, ALM has an aftercare BSN nurse who will discuss your situation and help guide you to success.

ALM has a fleet of clearly marked vans and expert drivers that cross the border several times each day. They know when you will arrive and will pick you up for the short 15-minute ride from the airport to the border.
Most airlines will make special arrangements to accommodate larger passengers. Discuss this with your airline’s ticketing agent when you make your reservation.
ALM vans can pick you up at any San Diego station. Whether you come by plane, train, bus, or car, we will pick you up.
Most surgeries take less than an hour to complete. Recovery time varies between procedures, but you can expect to be fully healed and able to resume normal activities in six weeks.
The hospital stay is two or three days depending on your procedure. After this period, you will spend another two days recovering at our specially configured hotel that is staffed 24/7 by ALM nurses.
All ALM surgeons, nurses, and patient advocates speak English.
ALM works with several finance companies that will work with you to find a lender. We also offer a payment plan that you can use to make payments on your surgery. Contact your coordinator to get a better understanding of financing your surgery.
After you are fully healed from surgery you can resume eating normal foods within the guidelines set by your doctor. You will not be able to eat as much as you could prior to surgery. Your new, smaller stomach will become full with about 3 to 4 ounces of food.
Near the hotel there are many international restaurants to choose from, with many fast food restaurants also nearby. Your companion will never be without food options.
Your deposit is fully refundable up to 21 days prior to surgery.
